To carry out this step, you need to have a chainsaw that matches the diameter of the trunk you want to fell. Make a horizontal cut with a depth equal to one-fifth of the tree’s diameter. Likewise, make an angled cut of about 45° that connects to your first horizontal cut. Then, you need to execute a felling cut at 45° on the side opposite the direction of the fall. You will perform this operation only once if the chain guide of your chainsaw shows a length greater than the diameter of the trunk. On the other hand, if the chain guide is shorter, you will make the felling cut in several passes.
Debarking and Limbing
Now that the tree is on the ground, you can proceed with debarking. Ideally, you should elevate it above ground level. For example, you can place it on a saw horse. To cut the trunk, you will rely on the center of the chain guide. Then, tilt your chainsaw downwards and ensure that the chainsaw’s claw is always in contact with the wood, provided that the trunk is on the ground or on a saw horse. However, if the trunk is unstable and resting on another trunk, you can make a V-notch on the other trunk to better accommodate the wood to be cut. Regarding limbing, you should position yourself on the opposite side of the trunk from the branch you want to cut. For the cut, you will start with the upper branches and then move to the branches positioned on the sides of the trunk. As for the lower branches, you should roll the tree onto its side.

Pruning
Pruning is an action aimed at cutting branches from a standing tree. In other words, this step concerns a tree that has not been felled. This step can be done from the ground where you will use a pole saw or a pole pruner. But do not stay near its falling point and never position yourself underneath. Then, pruning can be done from the tree by gripping onto the branches. Here, use a chainsaw specifically designed to be held with one hand. Also, with the help of a pruning harness, you must secure your position by attaching yourself. Finally, it should be noted that a two-handed chainsaw is prohibited, as you need to hold firmly during the operation to avoid losing control.
